Up and Running

Well, here’s our first attempt at a new website.  I think it holds some promise.  In future, I plan to use this blog page to comment on what it seems the Holy Spirit is doing in our church in these days.  For example: Last night in our Session meeting (Session is an old Scottish term for the board or ruling elders) – anyway, last night one of our elders opened the meeting with a very moving story from a book by Tony Campolo (thanks Boyd & Cathy!).  The story was about an impromptu birthday party given a prostitute who had never had one. The point was that this was just the sort of thing that Jesus would do – and the church of Jesus should do too.  The elder said that he felt that the Spirit was moving us in this direction and gave God thanks and praise for that.

Right after this a prospective new member shared her testimony and was received into membership.  This precious woman had never been a member of any church before and was moved to join us because she felt God’s “Yes!” spoken to her in this congregation.  On Sunday I had said, “Grace is God’s ‘Yes!’ spoken to us in Christ and faith is our ‘Amen!’ spoken in response. For in him every one of God’s promises is a “Yes.” For this reason it is through him that we say the “Amen,” to the glory of God. (2 Corinthians 1:20 NRSV).   It was pretty cool that she wrote this down on the back of a bulletin and then came to our meeting to say her “Amen!” publicly with us.  –Steve
